Walking in the Light (Part 5): Living It Out Loud
Step into your calling to shine God’s light in your world, becoming a beacon of hope for others.
Final Part of the 5-Part Series: Walking in the Light—Winning the Daily Battle Against Darkness
In this series we looked at understanding the nature of light and darkness, the daily choices we need to make, seeking clarity, and celebrating the victory of light. The last part, which is where everything leads to and which is also the most difficult - at least for me—is to be the light.
Jesus didn’t just say, “I am the light of the world.” He also said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). That means the light of God isn’t just something we follow — it’s something we carry and share.
Your Life as a Light
Being the light means living in a way that reflects God’s love and truth. It doesn’t mean being perfect, but it does mean living intentionally.
You become the light when you offer kindness in a harsh world. You become the light when you speak truth in love. You become the light when you live with integrity, even when no one is watching. It is actually living out the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
These everyday actions shine far brighter than you might think.
People are watching you without you even realising it. Your light is visible. Have you ever noticed a colleague that is at peace even when circumstances are difficult or who is always hopeful in every situation? That is the light of God shining through them.
Spreading the Light
Light is contagious. So, we can share it freely.
Offer encouragement where there’s discouragement.
Speak life where there’s despair.
Be present for someone who feels alone.
When you do, you spread the light of Christ, and the darkness cannot withstand it.
So, what is the next step? For me, it is to be the light. To let God’s love shine through my words, actions, and presence — wherever He has placed me. At home, at my workplace, and in my friendships.
Someone is waiting to experience hope through you. Don’t shrink back. Arise, shine — for your Light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you (Isaiah 60:1).
