What I Never Want to Forget About God
When life presses in and we forget the goodness behind us, our greatest weapon is to remember who God is — and all He has already done.
While reading about the Israelites and how God took them out of slavery into the promised land, I realized how quickly we can forget what God has done for us. It is so easy to forget God’s miracles, His guidance, and even His voice. In the case of the Israelites, they saw and experienced firsthand how God parted the Red Sea but then later grumbled as if He’d never done a thing for them.
Looking into my own life, I thought about times I really prayed to God for a miracle, but it did not happen. And while my heart was sincere, I realized that I had almost forgotten the many times God had already been faithful to me. It wasn’t because I didn’t care — it was because I was so caught up in the now that I’d lost sight of the already. Which is why God repeatedly commanded us to remember.
It’s something we all do. We forget. And not just car keys and passwords. We forget when our prayers were answered, when we received unexpected provision, and the moments of peace when everything around us was in chaos. Sometimes, we even forget what Jesus has done for us on the Cross and the mercy that saved us in the first place.
While thinking about this, I realized the actual problem is that it’s all about me and not about God. When things are starting to get difficult, we tend to shift the focus from God to us. We feel so sorry for ourselves. We are the victim, and the whole world is against us. It is usually in these situations that we start to believe that He’s distant or not listening. And in that space of waiting or disappointment, we forget the track record of His goodness.
God Is at Work
I’ve decided to reaffirm to myself that even when the world feels crazy and chaotic, God is not absent. He is still the Creator of every sunrise and the Redeemer of every broken heart. He’s still writing stories of grace and working behind the scenes in ways we may not see yet.
And He didn’t just create the world and leave it to fall apart. He dreamed about every detail and placed us in this exact time for a reason. Although it is sometimes upside down, He’s present. He’s active. He’s good.
So Here’s What I Never Want to Forget
That God has shown me mercy I didn’t deserve.
That He has met me in both the mountaintops and the valleys.
That He has never left me, even when I doubted or distanced myself.
That He gave me a purpose far greater than comfort — to know Him, love Him, and make Him known.
That everything good I have has come from His hand.
What happens when we remember? To start with, we realign our hearts with truth. Gratitude steps in. Worship becomes the natural response. And our faith is strengthened for whatever comes next.
So ask yourself, what do you never want to forget about how God has shown up in your life? What moment, miracle, or revelation from Him still takes your breath away when you recall it?
Thank God for His everlasting love, that His love is unconditional, and that His love is greater than your fears, anxiety, failures, and sin. And above all, that nothing can separate you from His love.
