Five Secrets to Changing Your Circumstances
Find out how changing your perspective can change your circumstances
The other day, at a restaurant, I overheard two people complaining that their work situation was dull, uninteresting, and hard. I didn’t mean to listen, but the conversation was so tense that everyone could hear it. This made me think that there are times that I also have to do tasks that are boring and frustrating, and you wonder if it is worth the time and effort. But then I thought of Colossians 3:23–24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Everything we do, therefore, matters to God, and He uses it.
Looking at the verse, it says, “Whatever you do.” So, no matter if you're working in your dream job or for a tough boss, cleaning your house, or setting up a business, everything we do is a chance to worship Jesus.
It's all about how you look at it
When we only look at life through the lens of ourselves, we will quickly get tired of our situations and let down by our efforts. So how should we then view life?
View life through the lens of worship; nothing in this life will give us more joy than serving Jesus. This gave me a new perspective on how I see my job. It is all about worshiping God with my actions, which include the tasks and things I dislike. As long as everything is about Him, everything is worth doing well. If we follow Jesus, our lives belong to him.
Our mentality should be that it is not about me anymore but all about Jesus. Everything revolves around Him, His purposes, and His glory. After all, that is why we were created in the first place, for God’s glory.
Our hope, joy, and peace don’t come from our circumstances. They come through the power of God. It is not that the Holy Spirit leads us to better circumstances; it is that He teaches us how to perceive our circumstances. IN our circumstances, we find peace, joy, and hope.
If we want to transform our lives, we don’t need transformed circumstances; we need a transformed perspective and to trust in a God who exercises His power in all areas of life.
As tough as it may be, a desperate situation is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to praise God, despite the circumstances.
Circumstances will always fail us, but our true hope is in God. Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves of this truth.
He always blesses us with His presence, love, and kindness when we do everything with Him in mind. He will also give us an eternal reward for our good work one day.
So, next time you are faced with a difficult or boring task, see it as an opportunity and ask yourself, "How can I honour God today and encourage others?"
