How to Put on the Armor of God Every Day: A Simple, Practical Guide
Feeling spiritually drained or under pressure? How to practically put on the armour of God each day—so you can face life with confidence, peace, and the power of His truth
Have you ever felt like life was just too much—emotionally, spiritually, mentally? Like you're constantly fighting battles that no one else sees? The truth is, we are in a spiritual battle every single day. But thankfully, God hasn’t left us unprotected—He’s given us His armour.
I have been studying Ephesians for the past month and rediscovered how to put on the armour of God. In Ephesians 6:10–18, the Apostle Paul describes the spiritual armour God gives His children to help us stand strong against the enemy’s schemes.
But here’s the thing: I’ve always read over it but never thought of how to actually use it, which I suppose was the intention of Paul when he wrote this. So how do we do that? How do we put on the armour of God in a way that changes how we live today?
Let’s walk through each piece to see how you and I can wear this armour every day.
1. The Belt of Truth
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…” – Ephesians 6:14
The belt of truth holds everything together. Soldiers used a belt to secure their tunic and carry their sword. For us, truth keeps our spiritual lives stable.
How to put it on:
Start your day in the Word of God, even if it’s just a verse. Fill your mind with truth before the lies of the world have a chance to creep in.
When a negative thought comes, ask, Is this true? Or is it fear, shame, or a lie from the enemy? Replace it with God’s truth.
Example: When you feel like you’re not enough, remember what God says: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). That’s truth.
2. The Breastplate of Righteousness
“…with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” – Ephesians 6:14
The breastplate protects your heart—your identity, your emotions, your inner life. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about walking in the righteousness of Jesus, not your own.
How to put it on:
Confess sin quickly and freely. Don’t let guilt build up.
Live with integrity in private, not just in public.
Remind yourself: “I am made right with God, not by what I do, but by what Jesus did for me.”
Example: When you make a mistake or fall into sin, don’t let shame keep you stuck. Repent, receive His grace, and move forward.
3. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
“…with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” – Ephesians 6:15
Shoes help you stand firm and keep moving. These are the shoes of peace, grounded in the good news of Jesus. When you wear them, you walk with calm confidence, not fear or chaos.
How to put them on:
Spend a few minutes in prayer every morning, inviting God’s peace into your heart.
Be ready to bring peace into conversations—through listening, kindness, or encouraging words.
Share the hope of Jesus when you get the chance, even in small ways.
Example: Before a stressful meeting, whisper a prayer: “God, let me walk in Your peace, not anxiety. Help me be a peacemaker today.”
4. The Shield of Faith
“Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:16
Faith is your shield. The enemy throws lies, doubts, fear, and temptation—but your faith in who God is and what He’s promised will protect you.
How to lift it daily:
Say out loud: “God is for me. He is with me. He is faithful.”
When fear rises, respond with faith: “Lord, I don’t feel in control, but I trust You are.”
Surround yourself with people who will speak faith over you.
Example: When your finances feel tight or the future is uncertain, hold up your shield and say, “God is my provider. I will trust Him.”
5. The Helmet of Salvation
“Take the helmet of salvation…” – Ephesians 6:17
The helmet protects your mind. When you wear it, you remember who you are and whose you are. You are saved, loved, and secure in Christ.
How to wear it daily:
Begin your day by thanking God for saving you.
When doubts come, remind yourself: “I am a child of God. My salvation is secure in Christ.”
Read verses that speak about your identity in Jesus.
Example: When you start to feel unworthy or lost, stop and declare, “I have been bought with a price. I belong to Jesus.”
6. The Sword of the Spirit (The Word of God)
“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:17
This is the only offensive weapon in the list. God’s Word is powerful—it speaks life, defeats lies, and strengthens your spirit.
How to use it daily:
Read a portion of Scripture each day, even if it’s small.
Memorise verses that help you in your struggles.
When the enemy whispers lies, speak God’s Word back at him.
Example: When you feel like giving up, quote Galatians 6:9: “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
And Don’t Forget Prayer
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…” – Ephesians 6:18
Prayer is like the energy source for the entire armour. It’s how we stay connected to our Commander, Jesus. It’s how we get strength, clarity, and peace.
How to do it:
Talk to God throughout your day, not just once.
Pray before decisions, during struggles, and even in your joy.
Pray for others—it strengthens your faith and theirs.
Start Dressed, Stay Dressed
Putting on the armour of God isn’t a one-time act—it’s a daily habit. I’ve learnt that when I start my day spiritually dressed, I walk through the day with more peace, clarity, and strength.
So start early, before the noise of the world hits you, and take a few minutes to pray through each piece of the armour. Ask God to clothe you in truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and His Word.
Lord, today, I put on Your full armour.
Belt of Truth – Help me walk in honesty and Your Word.
Breastplate of Righteousness – Guard my heart and help me live right.
Shoes of Peace – Let me carry Your calm wherever I go.
Shield of Faith – Protect me from fear, doubt, and lies.
Helmet of Salvation – Cover my thoughts with Your truth.
Sword of the Spirit – Let Your Word be my strength and defence.
You’re not alone in this battle, and you’re not unprotected. You’ve been given armour by the King of kings—and it fits perfectly.
