How to Find Peace in the Middle of the Chaos
Discover how to integrate faith into your daily routine and experience a deeper connection with God.
We’re in another week, and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably looking at your to-do list and wondering how on earth you’re going to get everything done. Between work tasks, meetings, and personal commitments, it feels like there’s never enough time in the day. In between, you also have to balance your family life. It’s overwhelming, isn’t it?
The other day, a friend and I were discussing this very topic. She confided in me that she’s feeling anxious and lost amidst her endless responsibilities. No matter how hard she tries, there’s always something new demanding her attention. She admitted that she feels guilty for not spending enough quiet time with God and worries that her connection with Him is weakening. She even mentioned that when she tries to pray, it doesn’t seem to help.
What is happening here is that our lives can become so cluttered with the world’s demands that we unintentionally push God out. Here’s what I have come to understand and what I would like to share with you.
1. Making space for God
In our busy schedules, it’s crucial to integrate God into our daily activities. Talk to Him throughout your day—when you’re at your desk, heading to a meeting, or even enjoying a cup of coffee. This constant communication helps shift our focus from our overwhelming circumstances to Jesus. By filling our minds with thoughts of Him, you will find that your anxiety lessens, and you will experience a sense of peace.
2. Jesus, carries our burdens
Jesus invites us to cast our worries on Him because His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. He has already carried our burdens for us. When we allow Jesus to dominate our thoughts instead of our work, we begin to find rest. This is a practice I try to follow daily. It’s not that the world’s demands disappear, but with Jesus at the centre of our thoughts, we find a way to navigate through them with a calm heart.
3. Overflowing with Jesus
When we become so filled with Jesus, we start to overflow, much like a bucket brimming with water. This overflow not only brings us peace but also impacts those around us. People begin to see Jesus in us and are drawn to that peace and joy. Building a relationship with God involves sharing every aspect of our day with Him, talking to Him, reasoning with Him, and repenting when we fall short.
4. A Deliberate Choice
Living in this world means we are constantly surrounded by its demands, but we are not of this world. We belong to God, and choosing Him is a voluntary, intentional decision. We need to make a conscious effort to give God an honourable place in our lives. We must choose to be in His presence, to communicate with Him daily, hourly, and even every minute.
5. Complete surrender
Surrendering to God means giving Him everything, not just selective parts of our lives. It’s about more than trying to do less of something like getting angry or eating unhealthily. God asks for our entire lives—every breath, every thought. Jesus gave His life for us, and in return, we should strive to give our lives to Him.
6. Set a routine
Often, we focus on our end goal, like wanting to live closer to God, without knowing how to get there. Instead, we should concentrate on the process. Establish a routine, such as setting aside fifteen or thirty minutes of quiet time with God each day. Over time, this practice becomes a natural part of your life, and you’ll find yourself living closer to God.
Taking action
So, here’s the challenge for this week: Make an intentional decision to integrate God into every part of your day. Talk to Him regularly, share your thoughts and worries, and let Him guide you through your busy life. Set a specific time each day for quiet reflection and stick to it. By focusing on this process, you’ll find that living closer to God becomes more attainable and fulfilling.
Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. Let’s encourage each other to make room for God amidst the chaos. Feel free to share your experiences and any tips you have for staying connected with Him throughout the day. Together, we can find peace and purpose in His presence.
